The Bureau of Justice Assistance provides funding, training, and technical assistance to states, local units of government, and other justice and crime prevention agencies. The internship program is open to undergraduate students who are enrolled in a U.S. college of university during the term of the internship. Gentry, Locke, Rakes and Moore, Attorneys at Law is working with the Virginia Bar Association to develop a minority recruitment program in the Roanoke area. It seeks to identify minority college students who have an interest in pursuing a legal career. Students accepted into the program participate in a one-week summer internship. Following the internship, the students are paired with an attorney who serves as a mentor in their preparation for law school.
The Legal Aid Society of the New River Valley is interested in taking interns. Its offices are located in Christiansburg.
Radford students have interned with Radford's Commonwealth's Attorney and with the Pulaski County Public Defender's Office.
