  UNIVERSITY AND PRIVATE INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Fund for American Studies at Georgetown University supports Live, Learn, & Intern. The program integrates classroom study that may be transferred for credit, internships, and such activities as lectures and site briefings.

The American University’s Washington Semester is a summer internship program supplemented by an academic seminar. Internship opportunities are available are available with corporations cultural organizations, trade associations, and public policy research institutes.

The Institute for Experiential Learning offers a variety of internship experiences. Students intern four days a week and take two required seminars and one elective course.

The Public Forum Institute offers interns the opportunity to work as part of a project team related to economic or social policy issues. These projects are designed to advance the exchange of information between the public and private sectors and provide a base of cooperation among government and business leaders.

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Studies has an extensive program of internships available.

Virginia Capital Semester is a program that allows students from throughout Virginia (and elsewhere) to do an internship in Richmond during the General Assembly session without losing time in completing their studies.  The core of the program is an internship within the legislative or executive branch of Virginia government and an accompanying policy seminar that features presentations by key government and political leaders.  Students are able to take additional courses at VCU in areas that match their academic needs to achieve a full-time load.  An internship stipend of $1,000 is provided to participants who are registered full-time (12 credits or more).

In the past three years, 117 students representing more than a dozen majors and 14 colleges and universities in Virginia have participated in the program, and we hope to have another Radford student this year!  Please don't hesitate to contact me about Capital Semester, or to share my contact information with your students directly.
